This morning we went to the beach..we walked along the base of the Seven Sisters, near to Birling Gap...We sat a while and listened to the sound of the sea and the birds. There was no other sound......the sun was so warm.. coffee followed at the National Trust cafe. It was busy. Lots of people out and about..
The sea is such an inspriration to me, colours, smell and its sound....my jewellery, I hope, reflects this. I have recently been making pieces that represent not only the beauty and nature around us, but conversations with friends. My mind tends to wander ! ... some being of sunsets with faceted cream quartz, red chalcedony and pearls.. and another bracelet with black glass and passionate red jade and sea bamboo......

I'm Back ~ Let's Blog
Hi All,
I've been naughty ! Not been on here for ages.... Finally I've decided on a revamp .... and I hope you like it, there's always room for improvement !
The world of SeaMaidenGems is a busy one. It seems that lots of you are buying new jewels for your summer wardrobe and of course your holidays. Ive been working on lots of new designs, using lots of scrummy gems and lampwork. Pearls are one of my favourites too, as you all know and with the addition of turquoise they just sing Summertime. There is so much inspiration around me and I've been bursting with new ideas, putting them down on paper when they pop into my mind. Watch this space ~ they will be photographed and posted here.
Something very exciting that's happening with SeaMaidenGems is that I am exhibiting at Seaford Artwave. Luckily, I was able to get a place with the Stafford Road Artitist and Makers. We will opening at the end of August and I will be with 18 other artists in Robin Shells' beautiful home. Among the art on show will be textiles, jewellers, card makers, artishts and photographers. More details later.
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Sunday to you all.

Busy Sunday
It's been a hectic day, fitting in all sorts... Ironing included ! Most of my day has been spent photographing my jewellery.. Yesteday we went to our local tile centre. It's a family run business and they are so helpful. I think Dave thought we were going to re-tile our kitchen ! But no.. all Sarah wanted was one large plain white tile..! There was a long queue behind us but no one seemed to mind...
The tile is a background for my photography. We thought it would improve results and Pete has bought a light box too. So I've been playing today and experimenting with different shots and props. We have read up and checked out tutorials and websites, all giving advice on how to take pics of jewellery. However, it's not easy. So far I'm happy with todays results. Photos are really important, especially when you are buying over the internet. So I will await your comments !

Half Term DIY
Pete's been busy working hard in the house. It's that time of year; spring is in the air.. time for updating and doing those jobs that have been on hold a while. We started with a new boiler ... went on from there re-lagging the loft, nice and toasty ! ... Then we moved onto new taps in the bathroom, I'm very happy with our new updated look. And today Pete has got the new kitchen door on.. locks an all.. Well done Pete !
Half term for me means catching up with paperwork, commissions and sorting the website. I hope for some rest though and maybe at the end of the week a trip into Brighton for a mooch..

Well, I have taken the plunge and started a blog.. this is all very new to me.. so I am learning fast, trying to keep up with the technology that others find so easy !
My website http://www.seamaidengems.co.uk/ is just great and my lovely hubby made it all possible.I can't thank him enough. I am in awe of his knowledge and determination. I am very happy to at last be in the market with a selection of my handcrafted jewellery.. I enjoy making and selling.. designing pieces and getting inspiration from the beautiful county I live in, East Sussex. We are blessed to live here right by the sea and the stunning countryside is a stones throw away. Brighton is about 10 miles westwards and I love the buzz and the young feel to the city and a fabulous drive over the Cuckmere Valley takes you to Eastbourne in the other direction which is a more relaxed town with a lovely traditional seafront.
I also am on flickr. A site that I love.. almost as much as facebook ! It is really lovely to have comment on my work from other artists. It means so much.
So, I will post this now and start to think how to organise myself here ! any suggestions and help will be glady received !
